Alejandra chavez

Principal, Esperanza college Prep

Alejandra Chavez was born and raised in South Central Los Angeles. As a student at Locke High School, she was awarded the prestigious Posse Scholarship and became a first generation college student. Ms.Chavez then moved across the country to attend Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. During that time, she double majored in Mathematics and Spanish Language & Literature. After obtaining her Bachelor’s degree, she joined Teach For America in Grandview, Washington State where she was recognized as Teacher of the Year in 2016. 

Excited to continue this work in the communities of Los Angeles, Ms. Chavez joined the founding team at Esperanza College Prep in 2017 as a teacher for Algebra l, Geometry, and Algebra II. Two years later she became the Assistant Principal of Instruction and earned her Masters in Education from the University of Washington. 

She has been an integral part of the foundation at Esperanza and as principal, she is proud to continue creating Positive Multigenerational Change and proving what is possible for all students. Outside of school, Ms. Chavez enjoys hiking and spending time with her new puppy- Enzo.
