Principal, East college Prep

Robert Andrew Martinez grew up in Southern California and is proud to be a first generation college graduate. He attended the University of California, Riverside, graduating cum laude with a degree in Psychology. While in Riverside, Martinez worked for Upward Bound and Guardian Scholars, played soccer, and published in a psychology research lab. After completing his BA, he joined Teach for America and moved to Washington D.C. While living in D.C., he taught elementary school at Thomas S. Stone Elementary. He then moved to Chicago to teach World History and Collegiate Seminar at Muchin College Prep, a Noble Street Charter School. While at Muchin, he was a grade level lead, a track coach, and a SLAM poetry coach. He received two awards: Advisor of the Year (twice) and the Joy of Learning awards.

Martinez eventually decided to return home to Los Angeles. He became the founding Dean of Culture at East College Prep, striving to support our students as they created their Positive Multigenerational Change. He then became the Assistant Principal, supporting teachers in their development. He is proud of the East community and the resilience, community, and joy that you can find in the halls of East. He thoroughly loves his career and enjoys working with the staff and community to provide our students and families with a rigorous and joyful educational experience.
